A High-Quality Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filter Is a Must

This newly created surface can effectively filter out a wide variety of contaminants, such as chlorine, pesticides, trihalomethanes (THMs) and other chemicals linked to cancer. The filter should have the capacity for 0.5 or less sub-micron filtration. This allows for the effective removal of chlorine resistant microscopic organisms like cryptosporidium and giardia. Low cost carbon is less effective and needs to be replaced more often. Look for a filter that will last at least 6 months.

2. Adsorption
While sub-micron filtration works by physically blocking contaminants, adsorption is a process where the carbon filter actually attracts a variety of dissolved contaminants and they are held or adsorbed on the surface of the carbon particles. Unlike pitcher water filters like Brita, a fridge water filter has a lot more carbon to go around. The large surface area means that the water contact time is longer. The result is that greater adsorption of various chemicals can take place. Filter systems like the AQ7000 use a highly compressed carbon media to filter out chlorine, lead, VOCs (Volatile Organic Chemicals), THMs, cysts, turbidity (sediment level) and most other tap water contaminants.

3. Ion Exchange
The final filtration technology is ion exchange. During this stage, lead is filtered out by a complex ion exchange process where lead ions are replaced with potassium ions. This process is extremely effective for lead and heavy metal reduction. It also enhances your waters natural mineral balance. Potassium is one of the minerals that give your water its natural spring water taste, as well as a neutral pH. A coconut shell carbon block can be impregnated with potassium charged microporous zeolite to achieve this effect.

Most refrigerator filters come in a standard size and can provide water for refrigerators, ice makers and coolers. Is tap water cleaner than bottled water? Most would probably say "No." After all, do you get flyers from your water utility with pictures of snow-capped mountains and streams of gurgling water flowing over rocks into crystal clear, bubbling pools? Nah, you just get a bill. So, let's strip away the marketing bunk and tally some comparison points.

In Cleveland, Ohio, researchers took tap water samples from four processing plants and compared them with five types of bottled water.

1. If tooth decay is a concern, bottled water failed the fluoride tests with only 5% falling within the recommended range. The tap water was okay. Tap, 1 point.

Tap water is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and they require enough chlorine to be added to the water to kill ALL bacteria.

Bottled water, whose source is often from the tap (see label of Pepsi's Aquafina), is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and they allow bottlers some contamination by E. coli or fecal coliform. Ewww! Sewage! Yuck! Ptooey!

2. While neither result is acceptable, the outcomes reflect the differences in regulation. Two-thirds of the bottled water had lower bacterial counts than the tap water samples, but, 25 percent of the bottled water had 10 times more bacteria than tap water. Tap, 2 points.

3. Lead leaching from supply pipes or fixtures can be a major concern for tap water users, whereas, bottled water is sealed and remains unchanged after processing. Bottled, 1 point.

Chlorine, mandated by the EPA, is a poison that transforms itself into a class of chemical carcinogens in the presence of organic materials. These carcinogens have been directly linked to heart disease and cancer.

4. Danger from chlorine, along with the water's foul taste and smell, is the main reason why most people prefer bottled water vs tap water. Bottled, 2 points.

The EPA and the FDA have identical standards regarding acceptable levels of pharmaceutical drugs. They have none.

Some water utilities test for a few drugs but none remove them.

None of the bottlers test their final product for drugs (that I am aware of), but some have filtering processes that would remove some drugs.

Following recent events on Wall Street, I have full confidence our Government and Wall Street will demand testing for pharmaceutical drugs in our water supplies once we all have long flowing beards, high-pitched voices and are growing a few extra body parts.

5. Bottled water gets an edge here since some bottlers use filter systems which do remove some drugs. Bottled, 3 points.

Those same filters, however, remove trace minerals, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium, essential to good health. If these minerals are not added back, water is flat tasting and unhealthy to drink.

Unhealthy because the water becomes slightly acidic, and when we consume an acid substance, our bodies will take calcium from our teeth and bones to produce bicarbonate in order to neutralize the acid.

6. In light of the above comments related to minerals, and the fact that various studies suggest cancer can only grow in an acid environment, it's another point for tap water. Tap, 3 points.

The U.S. produces 70 million empty plastic water bottles every day, using enough oil in a year to keep 100,000 cars on the road. Landfills are overwhelmed with these bottles. It's estimated that over 60 million of them go to landfills every day.

7. Add in the eco-costs for manufacturing, trucking, shelving and marketing and it's another point for tap water. Tap, 4 points.

Big oil companies buy oil leases from our government, explore for oil, drill, pump, transport to refineries, refine, store, transport to gas stations, pay huge taxes and deliver a reliable product for under .00 a gallon.

Bottled water folks, turn a tap, filter the water (maybe), fill the bottle, take it to the store, pay taxes and deliver a questionable product at a very high price.

8. The cheapest bottled water I found at the store today was .82 on a per gallon basis! Tap, 5 points.

That said, I will not knowingly drink tap water. Why?

I spend most of my day reading and writing about what's in our water and what it's doing to us, and, in my opinion, the chlorine in tap water is the primary cause of heart disease and cancer in the world today.

I filter my tap water before I use it. I will use bottled water in an emergency, but it's expensive and way too "iffy" to count on. I bottle my own!

Filter your tap water before you use it and bottle your own water. That way you know you are getting good, safe, water at a penny per glass, not five dollars or more a gallon.

The clean & pure counter top water filter is not the high quality product that it is advertised as. The manufacturers advertise it as a maintenance free counter top water filter, and that is absolutely true. But, let me explain to you why "maintenance free" at least in this instance, is a bad thing.

The actual meaning of maintenance free in this case is that there are no replaceable parts on the unit. When something as simple as a filter goes bad, you have to throw out the entire unit and purchase a new one. You might think of the clean & pure counter top water filter as a "one-hit wonder".

You would think that something that is touted as a maintenance free counter top water filter would have a long lifespan. However, many customers who have purchased the clean & pure counter top water filter say that it barely passed the 30 day guarantee period before breaking down.

If you were to do an internet search for consumer product reviews for the clean & pure counter top water filter, you would admittedly find that some customers were satisfied. Claims that the product removes chlorine and odor are right on target. Unfortunately, that's about all that the maintenance free counter top water filter does. It does not purify.

Your local treatment facility does quite a bit to protect your health. One thing that they can not do is remove certain bacterial cysts that, if ingested, can cause illness and even death, in rare cases. In order to be a purifier, a product should remove these cysts. The clean & pure counter top water filter does not. So, what you are drinking is by no means "pure".

How can the manufacturer of this so-called maintenance free counter top water filter claim that the unit is a purifier? The truth is that the manufacturer makes no such claim. If contacted, they will tell you that the clean & pure counter top water filter is not a purifier. It is just the advertising and the marketing ploys that are misleading.

It turns out that the maintenance free counter top water filter is simply a disposable chlorine remover. It will do nothing to protect you from other chemicals. It does not block cysts. It does not really clean and what it puts out is no "purer" than what comes out of your tap.

For about the same price (), you could get a Brita for your faucet. Brita is not the best on the market. It does not block THMs or VOCs, but it does remove cysts and lead. The clean & pure water filter cannot even protect your family from lead poisoning.

In a number of cities around the country, lead has been found to contaminate tap water. In those areas, citizens are advised not to drink from the tap, unless they have installed a lead blocking purifier. There are many reasonably priced products that will do the job. The clean & pure counter top water filter is not one of them. Make the right choice for your health.

the flimmering like heat waves on a hot day is NOT from heat. It was simply to cold for that. Cant explain why this accures, It felt like looking at an old TV screen. Sky far from as red as video shows. Sky in sunset and only where the Sun went down was light orange, the rest of Sky was blue. Again you see this kinda yellow rim(halo) around the Sun. It can be over exposure light simply to dim, as video clearly proves.. What I see looking low at horizon is like a wall like a boundary approx 10 degree high from ground to the blue sky. it dont appear blue its like the sky is ending there, The Sky look kinda flatten not spherical. At night its no longer pitch black, its more like a dim lamp is still lid in the background giving an effect of a very faint gray light.. I say again keep looking up and the truth shall to you be revealed. Our Sky is not as it seems and being taught in school. It more and more appears as a fabric of some sort. The next bad element you want to remove is VOC's. VOC stands for Volatile Organic Chemicals, these are synthetic compounds in the water such as pesticides and herbicides. Now that you know what they are I'm sure you can understand why you want them out of your shower water.

The last contaminate you want a shower head water filter to remove are THM's. I know another three letter acronym but, THM stands for Trichlormethane. THM is a by-product of the reaction between the chlorine and organic matter in the water, and I'm sure you know what organic matter is. This is another one of those contaminates that should make you want to start filtering your water immediately.

Ok so now you know about the key contaminates you need to remove from your shower water. The next question is, how do you go about getting these things out of your water?

That's where a good shower head water filter comes into play. A good filter on will use a two stage filtering process, this is because no filtering material is capable of remove all the contaminates in one pass. One pass will typically use something like charcoal to remove the chlorine, and the second pass filter media should remove the VOC's and THM's.

Hopefully, you have a better understanding of why you want to remove chlorine, VOC's and THM's from your shower water. By installing a good shower head water filter you will be well on your way to improving the health of your skin and the condition of your hair, its now up to you.
